WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER?
When I asked myself this question, I came up with several good answers:
#1** I wanted an easy job (driving seemed easy enough).
#2** The work would pay decent (not a ton of money, but a modest income).
#3** I would be able to travel the country if I was to apply for the interstate kind of truck driving job.
#4** The need to get an income going right now was important due to being on furlough or worst yes, laid off.
#5** Driving has been a huge part of my life, so it seemed I would be pretty good at it.
#6** I am the kind of person that does not like to chat and communicate all day long, so this looked just right, as I could work and drive in silence.
#7** My work ethic has always been outstanding so I know I could keep a schedule and be dependable for my bosses.
#8** How nice it would be to work and not have a boss hanging over me throughout the day.
REALLY, HOW HARD COULD THIS BE?
After working as a truck driver and traveling from city to city and state to state, the reality of what I had done (my decision) become clear to me in a short period.
Even though I had taken the classes and was taught how life would change, It did not become a reality until I was actually in the drivers seat, so to speak!
WHAT COULD GO WRONG WITH HAVING A TRUCK DRIVING JOB?

HERE IS WHAT I FOUND OUT AND LIVED THROUGH:
#1** I was spending way too much time away from home and missed my family (I was not there to protect my family).
#2** The truck I was often assigned to was not always serviced correctly and had multiple issues (break downs, over heating, brake problems).
#3** TRAFFIC!! Oh my word, if you are going to be a truck driver, EXPECT bumper to bumper traffic (stop and start for hours at a time).

#7** Roads traveled on are not always smooth and safe (snow, hail, slippery conditions are often present).
#8** Even though I enjoyed working for myself, I started missing the human interaction of others on the road.
#9** There were times when it was extremely hard to stay awake while driving (my boss would push and push for me to get to the destination on time even if it was at my own safety expense).
#10** It became VERY difficult to sleep in the back of the cab during routs (very uncomfortable and at times noisy).
#11** I ended up not eating as healthy as I used to when I was at home (take out and fast food was the norm).
#12** While I was home and had a few days off, I was SO EXHAUSTED that I spend most of the time in my nice comfortable bed trying to catch up from the lack of sleep.

For years, I worked in different industries. Besides the horrors of my short stint as a driver over the road, I owned my own Corporation, sold paper to Print Shops, sold water treatment, siding in the Midwest, and did some advertising work (of course when you own your own business, you become a jack of all trades).
I also worked in the Restaurant industry. That kind of work was grueling because I was on my feet for 10-12 hours per day, 6 days per week and the pay was absolutely terrible. Plus, dealing with customers who can have a terrible attitude was humbling at best!
